Where to Buy Lab-Grown Engagement Rings in South Florida
What a lab-grown diamond is
A lab-grown diamond has the same chemistry and crystal structure as a mined one. In 2018 the Federal Trade Commission updated its jewelry guides so that "diamond" no longer depends on the stone being natural. A grown diamond is a diamond. It must be clearly described as laboratory-grown, laboratory-created, or created by a named maker, and the word "cultured" can't be used on its own.
That's different from a simulant. Cubic zirconia and moissanite look like diamonds but are different materials. Diamond simulants explained and moissanite vs. lab diamond cover the difference.
Why so many South Florida couples choose lab-grown
The reason is size for the money. A lab-grown diamond typically costs a fraction of a natural diamond of the same size and grade. On the same budget, that can mean a noticeably bigger stone, or room in the budget for a better setting.
The tradeoff is resale. Lab-grown diamonds have little resale value, and prices for new lab-grown stones have fallen over time. If she'll never sell it, that may not matter to you. Lab-grown vs. natural lays out both sides honestly.
Where to buy one in South Florida
Mall chains. Town Center in Boca, the Gardens Mall, the Galleria and Aventura all carry lab-grown rings now. It's easy to compare sizes in person. Expect retail pricing on top.
Miami's Seybold Building. Many dealers there sell lab-grown stones, loose or set. Competition can mean good prices; check every report. Our Seybold guide covers how to shop it.
Online sellers. Often low on the stone. You'll need a setting and you won't see it first.
Designer-direct. A designer sources the lab-grown stone to fit a ring designed around her, and prices the stone and the work separately. Usually the lowest total for a finished ring.
Five checks for any lab-grown ring
1. An independent grading report. IGI and GIA both grade lab-grown diamonds. Check the report number online. GIA vs. IGI explains the difference.
2. "Laboratory-grown" on the report and the receipt. It should be written plainly, not hidden in small print.
3. Cut grade. Lab-grown stones vary in cut quality like any diamond. Cut is what makes it sparkle.
4. The setting. A bigger lab-grown stone is still only as secure as its prongs and band.
5. The real price. Compare the same size, shape and grades across sellers. Lab-grown pricing moves faster than natural, so recent quotes matter.
Frequently asked questions
Are lab-grown diamonds real diamonds?
Yes. They're chemically and physically diamond. They must be disclosed as laboratory-grown or laboratory-created.
Can people tell a lab-grown diamond from a natural one?
Not by looking. It takes specialist lab equipment.
Do lab-grown diamonds hold their value?
Not well. Resale value is low, and new lab-grown prices have fallen over time. Choose lab-grown for what it gets you on her hand, not as an investment.
Where can I buy lab-grown diamonds in Boca Raton?
The chains at Town Center sell them, and so do independent designers. Compare the report and the total price for the finished ring.
Is IGI or GIA better for lab-grown diamonds?
Both grade lab-grown stones. Many lab-grown diamonds come with IGI reports. What matters most is that the report is independent and checkable.
So where does this leave you?
Lab-grown is a real diamond and a real saving. The buying risks are the usual ones: unclear grading, inflated pricing, and a setting that doesn't match the stone. Handle those, and where you buy matters less.
Lab-grown, designed from her
Amana is designer-direct, based in Boca Raton and working with couples across South Florida. We work with natural and lab-grown diamonds, explain the tradeoffs plainly, and you choose. We don't push either way.
In one conversation, The Amana Method, we design the ring around her and your budget. The stone is sourced to that design, with its independent grading report, reviewed by our certified gemologists. About three days later you see a CAD of the exact ring, and nothing is made until you approve it.
Design and craftsmanship together typically run about $1,500 to $4,000 total, with larger or more complex center stones running higher. A comparable retail ring commonly lands near $12,000.
